I'm definitely not up-to-date with HD anything I realised. I think computers will need to speed up by a couple of generations before HD can be cut as easily as SD is today. Ten years and I might be able to afford a camera ;-)

I still think the 'problem' with HD is that it never looks organic, whereas film still has a certain romanticism attached and is chemical based.

Still, with a generation of filmgoers growing up with Shrek and Toy Story, the HD 'look' will no doubt be more socially acceptable to them since they have no preconcieved notions of what reality should look like when projected.

Personally I much prefer the digital workflow, and the fact that HD(V) anything will become mainstream one day means that we may see another Easy Rider one day. The artform will be truly scalable - from PSC to full-on Hollywood production. I like that. It feels liberating.

I agree with the whole organic and real feel of film...That is why I shoot it.

Whilst HD looks good and is making attempts at lowering the price. It can be looked at in a good way. That is more people will be able to make a movie. Or a bad way. That is more people will be able to make a movie.

Personally, I am of the mindset that it is better if fewer people make movies and it is more costly to make a movie.

That might sound snobbish at first blush. What I would like to see is people really struggle to make their movie. It would force them to think about what is in front of the camera and make sure that it is the best thing from take 1...

Back to HD. It is really starting to make me think about what it can do and how to use it. HDV is junk in my mind it is far to compressed to use on anything worth while. I would stick to DV before HDV.
